Our VS vee packing sets incorporate a variety of configuration and material combinations depending on application requirements. Our standard sets consist of fabric-reinforced nitrile (neofab) vees only or a combination of fabric-reinforced nitrile (neofab) and urethane vees. However other configurations exist and custom configurations can be built based on specific application requirements. The vast majority of sets contain nylon male and female adapters, but neofab adapters are also available for some sizes.
These parts are ‘stacked’ together and must be lubricated liberally with clean operating fluid prior to assembly. The packing must be axially pre-loaded by the housing. This pre-loading works through the male adaptor on the pressure side by exerting a hinging action on the vees, which forces the sealing lips apart to ensure a low pressure seal. As the pressure increases, so the hinging action increases, increasing the effectiveness of the seal even where severe vibration, shock loading and knuckling may occur.
Pressure ratings listed below are based on using neofab vees only, urethane vees only, or a combination of the two types of vees. Neofab vees can withstand high pressures when stacked with the appropriate number of vees. Urethane vees also withstand higher pressures but are also used as the low pressure sealing element when stacked with neofab vees.
